About T.S. Chanakya

The Directorate General of Shipping, the statutory Maritime authority of government of India under the merchant shipping act 1958 is responsible for administration and management of activities taking place in Indian sea waters. It maintains good relations and international affairs with reference to under water activities with other countries that are involved in similar activities. Its charter regularizes various under-water activities besides training professionals. It approves institutes and courses offered for providing marine training in the country.

The Directorate General of Shipping has four wings such as the DGS Head Quarters, the Training Institutes, the MMDs, and the Allied Offices. These divisions are again divided into several sub divisions apart from various centers located preferably near the sea coast of the country.
