The Guru Nanak College of Education and Research was established in I990.The institution is affiliated to the University of Mumbai The college happens to be among the few unaided teacher training institution that was awarded ‘A’ grade by the NCTE .It has been accredited with B++ grade by NAAC in 2005.This was mainly due to the high functional ethos, the work culture and the quality of the curricular and co- curricular programmes that served to develop the overall personality of the teacher trainee rather than just academic aspects. The students admitted to the college come from diverse backgrounds. Many of them are economically challenged and come from rural areas. The various remedial programs and counseling services that are provided cater to the special needs and problems of students.

The B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) program offered by the institution serves to bring out the best out of each student and give him the confidence to face life.   The curricular and co-curricular programs ensure that students emerge into the world confidently as effective teachers. This has been proved repeatedly as principals of schools where our ex-students are employed, have given feedback expressing their appreciation for the fact that our students are a cut above in terms of their work culture and enthusiasm. The College also has a fairly impressive record of performance at the University Exams.
