Sree Narayana Guru College of Commerce is managed by Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti, a registered educational and charitable trust, which was formed in the year 1963 to perpetuate the memory of Sree Narayana Guru a great saint and social reformer of Kerala.

“Gain freedom through education” is the ideology based on which this institution is functioning. It has been promoting higher education since 1986 among the economically and socially neglected segments of the society.

Gain freedom through education is the clarion call given by Sree Narayana Guru, the great social reformer of 19th century to attain liberty, equality and fraternity. Inspired by this lofty message the Samiti started Sree Narayana Guru High School in June 1975 in Chembur (West) and a Junior & Degree College in 1986.

This area, P.L. Lokhande Marg, has a very close proximity to the slums of Govandi. Prior to this, the entire area was a marshy land with slum dwellings. There was hardly any access to this locality by means of transport. Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti, as trail-blazers has played a vital role in developing this entire area especially the adjoining lanes of P.L. Lokhande Marg in to a residential town. Development of such an abandoned area in to a residential township is the major contribution of Samiti to this State and the first milestone achieved in the service of society. This area is basically inhabited by socially and economically under previleged section of society, whose per capita income and literacy rate are at the lowest ebb.
